ABOUT US

The Mission: To make top quality full flavour beers and show locals and visitors alike that beer doesn’t have to be boring. Our Lifestyle brewery is located in the beautiful Coromandel. Each smallscale brew (350 Litres) is fastidiously hand-crafted for the discerning beer drinker. The beer is brewed traditionally the way beer used to be made before the big corporations decided that accountants and marketing men should decide on what beer should be (bland and boring). Our beer is brewed with all grain recipes and lots of the best New Zealand Hops. At The Coromandel Brewing Company, brewing great beer isn’t just a job – it’s a passion.

WE BREW CRAFT BEER

Below is a list of some of some of our locally brewed talent.

EASY RIDER

5.0% ABV

(A pale ale)

This light, golden coloured ale has a gentle malt influence and is mildly fruity from the use of fantastic New Zealand grown hops and our special strain of yeast.

CLOUD 9

5.0% ABV

(A Belgian influenced wheat beer)

Our version of a classic Belgian wheat beer spiced with coriander and mandarin peel picked from a local orchard here in the Coromandel. This beer is naturally cloudy and refreshingly fruity.

THE DARK SIDE

5.8% ABV

(A Dark Ale)

This rich lager explodes with  maltiness followed by a smooth finish. Our Kiwi version of Bavaria’s strong Bock lager. Five malts go into this wonderful dark brew to show that lager doesn’t have to be golden. Dare you come over to The Dark Side?

GOOD AS GOLD

5.0% ABV

(A pilsner style)
Our kiwi version of a Bohemian style pilsner. Riwaka and Pacifica hops give a delicate flavour and aroma to this classic beer style that is light bodied and easy to drink.

DIZZY BLONDE

5.5% ABV

(A Belgian Beer)

Based on the Belgian Blonde style this beer offers subtle spiciness and delicate fruit esters that are typical of Belgian ale yeast while appealing to our more typical Pilsner lovers.

Just Buzzin'

5.5% ABV

(A Honey Rye Beer)

The generous addition of manuka honey from local Coromandel hives gives an unmistakeable aroma to this Honey  and Rye beer. A gentle 'hopping' also allows the blend of these wonderful flavours to shine through.

WE ALSO BREW
CODE RED
An Irish Red Ale A percentage of this Irish Red Ale go towards supporting the Moehau Environment Group (MEG) in the Coromandel to help our Kiwi's Survival MUNTED MONK
An Abbey Style Beer This Abbey style ale is brewed with Belgian Trappist yeast which imbues it with fruity and spicy phenols. The rich complex malty sweetness comes from a generous array of New Zealand speciality malts. A deliciously deceptive brew.

Brewer / Owner

Neil

An electrical engineer by trade Neil came to NZ to live in 2008 with wife Karen and their two kids. They first came on holiday in 2004 and fell in love with the Coromandel so much that they bought a house! They found that they just  loved the place but hated the beer! At this time craft breweries were few and far between and beer was dominated by the big two. An idea was planted and years later a beer business was born. Perfect timing in a perfect part of the world……

Our Skills

Manager / Owner

Karen

Karens background was fashion management but she turned her back on it when she came here. Desperate for a change she encouraged Neil to make beer like he used to as she was used to drinking craft beer. My dad was a real beer buff and we always drank the good stuff. MY earliest recollection was drinking Old Tom and Theakstons Old Peculiar which are still around today and a lot bigger!

The fashion Industry overseas is very fast and very aggressive and this has stood me in good stead at The  Pour House.  I just love my job, love the bar and of course Hahei is the most magical place to live.

They have adapted their fine dining skills for a more casual environment and cemented the great relationship between good beer and good food.
